Your Super 8 Wedding Experience

We provide the most amazing and unique wedding films available today! Shot with oodles of analogue love and passion on the best medium of them all – Super 8. The iconic look of Super 8 is difficult to replicate in this digital age, the dreaminess, grain, saturation and vintage film look all add a nostalgic warmth and vibrance to your wedding memories. Super 8’s film emulsion creates a rich and organic colour palette with a subtle depth to the images. It’s a premium and artistic choice for our discerning clients all over the world.

What we offer

We will capture your wedding in a relaxed an unobtrusive manner. Several reels of Super 8 will be lovingly filmed on your big day. Once the film has been developed and processed we scan the footage in high resolution and then edit and colour grade the footage into a bespoke and exclusive film. Our output always includes:

  • A highlight film set to music
  • A longer Directors Cut containing all the footage shot on your wedding day, also set to music
  • The actual analogue reels of film shot on the day as a memento. These are a wonderful keepsake

Thats Penny the cat BTW

She’s always helping out (causing trouble) here at Super 8 Stories.

Why is Super 8 still so popular?!

The iconic look of Super 8 is still very much in demand. So much so that Kodak recently launched the first new Super 8 camera in 40 years. They have also reintroduced their Ektachrome filmstock. Actual swoon!

Super 8 is shot in a camera very similar to a Hollywood analogue movie camera, only everything is shrunk down to hand-held size as it was originally designed for making home-movies.

The film cartridges contain proper analogue film just like in a 35mm stills camera, but its only 8mm wide.  Rather than having 36 frames on a 5ft roll of still camera film, you get about 3,500 frames on a 100ft roll! This lasts for about 3 mins when projected at 18 frames per second.

Once exposed in the camera we then send your rolls of film off to be developed, sometimes in the same factory as Hollywood movie film.

Which film stocks are available?

Currently there are 5 film stocks available. 4 colour ones and a black and white one. They all have different characteristics, and we love all of them!

How long will you stay with us on our wedding day?

Its your choice. We often like to start when you are getting ready as this really sets the scene for your wedding day. We then usually stay until about an hour after your first dance. This way we get to film the big moments with plenty of opportunities to capture all those little details too, but let us know what you would like.

Do you travel abroad?

Yes, we travel all over the world capturing weddings, wherever you want to say “I Do” we will bring our Super 8 cameras and capture your magical day.

Do you only film weddings?

We film and photograph lots of weddings each year, but we are also more than happy to capture your special event, be it a proposal, engagement or birthday etc.

Do you have a favourite Super 8 camera?

Absolutely any of them – they are all amazing!

Every Super 8 camera we have tried provides that dreamy vintage vibe. However, having been shooting Super 8 for over 20 years we do have a few faves here at Super 8 Stories. We have a couple of dozen cameras on our shelves, and we have found that each camera make has its own unique attributes, so we use specific cameras depending on the requirements of the scene we are filming.

We are however particular fans of the French Beaulieu cameras, partly because they look totally bonkers (literally like they are straight out of Barbarella or something) but also because they are one of the few cameras with interchangeable lenses. We also love Japanese Sankyo cameras with their low light ability (CHECK THIS) and the oh so silver and shiny Nizo ones from Germany. Swoony McSwoon on all of them though.

Is it true you have an anamorphic Super 8 Camera?

Yes I do! One of only a few in existence since you ask. I had a camera adapted to take anamorphic lenses in the early 2000’s by The Widescreen Centre in London when there were still technicians around to do such a thing. Its epic.

This means we can shoot proper widescreen Super 8. Most lenses on most cameras are spherical, but anamorphic lenses squeeze the image horizontally, but not vertically, which is how letterbox movies such as La La Land, xxx, xxx and Pulp Fiction were filmed, along with hundreds of other films. Its another option and a unique creative choice we are pleased to offer our clients.

We love it! We’d like to book please, so what are the next steps?

Amazing news! Start by sending us the date you want us with you so we can check we are available. We can then chat in person, on the phone or Zoom etc to discuss your big day and to hear all about your details in more depth.

Super… its better than perfect.
